TEACHING STYLE
Kristen’s Yogilates classes begin with the strengthening exercises of Pilates to build heat and energy at the core. Then, Vinyasa sequences and Hatha asanas are then introduced to expand this energy throughout the entire body. This class focuses on how the breath, as well as moving from the core, can develop balance, grace and strength in the entire person. Kristen’s popular “Global Dance™~ where yoga meets dance” workshops integrate yoga with free, interactive, and guided dance to offer the participant a complete mind/body/spirit experience. No previous experience necessary.

PHILOSOPHY
Kristen seeks to empower her students through the integration of breath and movement to help students gain awareness, will, strength and balance. She invites her students to embrace pranayama to release stuck energy, sound vibration to open their spirits and wisdom from the chakras to expand their consciousness.

CERTIFICATIONS/TRAINING
Kristen gained her yoga teacher certification in Inter-disciplinary Yoga at the Omega Institute where she also received teacher training in Yogilates™. Kristen is also certified as a Pilates and Global Dance™ instructor and has studied Vipassana Meditation with Sharon Salzberg in NYC. Kristen has been most influenced by Don Stapleton of the Nosara Yoga Institute in Costa Rica, Kassandra Genovesi from the Omega Institute and Sarah Trelease from Om Yoga center, both in New York.

OF INTEREST
In addition to leading yoga and dance at Golden Tree Yoga, Kristen brings yoga to the homeless community in Santa Barbara and has successfully led two seasons of free "yoga in the park", where the homeless are integrated with the local yoga community.  Kristen also serves as a community organizer for two local non-profits, the Committee for Social Justice, where she is developing a youth media project; and the Gaviota Coast Conservancy, where she advocates to minimize development along the coastline.
