JULIE STILLMAN & FARDAD MICHAEL SERRY
TEACHING STYLE
Julie Stillman and Fardad Michael Serry teach Argentine Tango, Milonga and Vals. Differing from ballroom and international tango, Argentine Tango is an improvised partner dance that is never danced the same way twice. Two bodies travel together as one in sequences of unanticipated movements and pauses. There are no patterns to memorize, only a small set of simple, easy-to-remember basic rules.
PHILOSOPHY
From a finite number of body positions, we create limitless sequences inspired by the moment. The ultimate guide being the music! Each mind is completely, quietly, focused on the present moment and each body is in a state of relaxed control, consciously aligned to allow for the flow of energy and creativity between the partners.
ACHIEVEMENTS
Fardad Michael Serry and Julie Stillman were winners of The Gold Award in the 2005 International Argentine Tango Showcase and Competitions held in San Diego. They were invited to perform at the 2005 New Orleans Tango Festival as well as at numerous other festivals that included or were dedicated to Argentine Tango in Los Angeles and San Diego.
Fardad was a teacher and performer at the 2004 Las Vegas Tango Festival alongside the world's top teachers and legendary dancers from Argentina, including Nito and Elba Garcia. He also performed at the Gala Opening of the Long Beach Opera 2004-2005 season.
Fardad and Julie play an active role in Santa Barbara’s tango community. Local performances have included the Lobero Theatre and the Marjorie Luke Theater as well as at other locations around town.
